Dita Von Tease meets the Matrix
I’ve recently been booked to video and photograph a Burlesque studio and their students early in 2019. By all accounts a great bunch of ladies and the whole process should be creative and productive for personal and promotional use.
The last time I specifically took on this challenge was a few years back when the creative team consisted of model Leah Axl and make up artist Sam Day, both based in Glos.
We met up over coffee and a storyboard and kicked a few ideas about when one of us said ‘wouldn’t it be cool if we could shoot two completely diverse looks on the same day?’ Now THAT would be a challenge!
Leah has a classic timeless beauty in both her figure and face. The perfect platform for Sam to get creative and go for extremes. Soft classic lines and palettes of the 1940’s and then something much harder and more contemporary.
On top of it all we decided to video the whole process and this began the first in a series of BTS videos which I’ll be releasing over time.
To be honest I was shattered at the end of the day as there was so much to construct, in the lighting and props to create the two distinctly opposing vibes we were looking to achieve. The studio required two complete re-builds during makeup however we all managed to achieve something we were proud of. I couldn’t have managed it without the assistance of fellow photographer Rob Golding. More hands make light work.
Sam recalls, “the movie shoot with Bob was fantastic, he was an inspiring artist to work with from start to finish. Seeing our ideas come to life was fantastic and Bob captured the most amazing footage which showed off all our artistic work to a professional standard.”
“The idea behind it was brilliant demonstrating the transition from a beautiful burlesque Dita von Teese to a futuristic Matrix. It was so much fun to create and an absolute pleasure to work with such talented people. “
Leah too worked her sock off during the day. “This has to be one of my very favourite shoots. I am incredibly proud of the video and it definitely helped to show the model/photography world how well I could pose and adapt to different styles which helped further my career.”
“Bob is a talented photographer and creative and a wonderful person to finish the package! His planning and visions helped the shoot to take shape and Sam’s make up artist skills were perfect. The day flew past way too fast but thanks to the video and pictures it’s one I’ll never forget!”
